Meet Kate, who has been running a successful and beautiful blog called Veggie Desserts (@veggie_desserts) for more than 2 years at #FBC15 and connect!

What are you looQS8mCgWm_400x400king forward to learning and enjoying at FBC this year?

I can’t wait to meet the bloggers that I’ve been talking with online for more than two years! I’ve never met a fellow blogger in person before, so I’m expecting a lot of chatter about food, styling and blogging – and a lot of people taking photos of their lunch!

Is blogging your full time job? If not, what is your day job? Tell us a bit about what you get up to when you’re not working on your blog – your work, family life, projects, hobbies…

My blog is a part-time job for me. I’m also a digital marketing consultant. I have two kids, aged 3 and 5, so I’m kept very busy.

What first motivated you to blog and how has blogging changed your life?What’s your ultimate blogging dream – where do you plan to take it in the future? 

I am obsessed with vegetables, and particularly putting them into creative desserts (hello, Kale Cupcakes!) so, when I was made redundant while on maternity leave, I started the blog as a fun project. It has grown quickly and I now have a literary agent who is seeking a cookbook deal for me.

What’s your signature dish? 

My most popular dish is Kale and Apple Cake with Apple Icing. It is lower in sugar and fat and bright green. I’ve had many people all over the world make it and tell me how much they have enjoyed it.


Which other bloggers do you follow most closely? 

I’ve found so many supportive and helpful virtual blog friends and I’m really looking forward to at last meeting them in person. Through their funny, touching and personal blog posts, I feel that I know them so well already.

Finish this sentence: “For me, the ultimate food heaven is …”What’s your idea of food hell?

My food hell is definitely a beige meal. I get very stressed if there isn’t something green on my plate. I’ve enjoyed watching the growing trend of baking with vegetables. When I started blogging just over two years ago, chocolate and beetroot cake was considered outlandish, but now it’s mainstream. People are getting more open to unusual veg cakes and I love walking into cafes and seeing cakes with vegetables.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool or appliance – either a new addition or a trusted old favourite?  What’s on your wish-list right now? (Could be a gadget, appliance, ingredient/product, book, restaurant, course, travel destination etc)

My most-used kitchen gadget is definitely my Froothie high-speed blender. I used it at least once a day for smoothies, soups, sauces, flours…. The latest exciting addition to my kitchen is a Sage for Heston stand mixer. It is amazing quality and I get positively giddy when I turn it on. I made four cakes over the first weekend that I had it!
