Elena Kathryn Parker (@elenakathryn) is an award nominated multimedia producer, writer and creative technologist, whose work has ranged from feature-length documentaries, to iPad apps, to interactive physical spaces. She previously served as videographer and a contributing blogger for FOOD52, which was nominated for best video content in Saveur’s “2011 Best Food Blog Awards.”
In 2009, Elena co-wrote and co-produced the HBO Documentary Make Me Young: Youth Knows No Pain, which premiered at Lincoln Center and was nominated for the ‘Documentary Screenplay Award’ by The Silverdocs Film Festival and The Writers’ Guild of America. Then she served as the managing editor for the New York Public Library’s first mobile application, Biblion: The Boundless Library, which was selected for Apple’s App Store Essentials: Hall of Fame, was granted an Honorable Mention in the Knight-Batten Awards, and was dubbed “the Magazine App of the Future” by The Atlantic. Elena has also worked on several Transmedia initiatives with Lance Weiler and The Workbook Project, including Robot Heart Stories, which used storytelling and game mechanics to encourage media literacy in at-risk students. She is currently pursuing a Masters Degree at the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where her focus is on transmedia, interactive video and new platforms for long-form storytelling. Her most recent project, an eye tracker that edits video whenever you blink, was featured on Filmmaker Magazine’s website as a “new way to edit film.”
Elena will host the 3-hour Showtime! Vblogging Workshop at FBC12 for delegates to learn how to create great video content without expensive equipment. Bring your iphone or point and shoot equipment and get tips on how to set up the shoot, speak on camera, capture good sound, import, edit with sound overlay, slides, music and publish to the web.
