We at FBC love nothing more than returning FBC-ers, so we’re so excited to welcome back Bake (@bakenshakeblog) from Bake’n’Shake and Iris (@edgwareviabank) from Whatever Gets You Through the Day.

Welcome, Bake!  Tell us a bit about you and your blog.

I started Bake’n’Shake  with my husband (Shake) who occasionally contributes 🙂 We started it when we moved to France in 2012 with our baby boy.  I’m not coming too far this year – just Surrey in South London.

What are you most excited for at Food Blogger Connect this year?

I attended last year for just one day but this year I’m so excited to be there for the whole conference. I’m looking forward to catching up with the lovely people I met last year, and meeting some new faces too 🙂

Tell us a bit about your buddy!

My buddy’s blog is Whatever Gets You Through The Day and is written by the lovely Iris. I’ve been reading hers since I discovered she was going to FBC earlier this year and it’s such a lovely mix of recipes, reviews and an insight into someone else who loves to bake!  Iris and I decided to buddy up over twitter, together with some other lovely bloggers who attended this year too. Love the internet for helping us to get in touch like this! My favourite post of hers is a recent tart she made  – don’t they look incredible?

Tell us a bit about your blog – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?

Right now, with a toddler running the show, I am happy when I manage to keep the blog up to date! I have no particular aspirations or expectations, just plan to try and write more recipes and keep enjoying blogging 🙂

My blogroll is so long it’s ridiculous! I love some of the big names like Chocolate and Zucchini, Smitten Kitchen, Green Kitchen Stories and David Leibovitz. Closer to home though, I love The Little Loaf and London bakes and think that Leyla at The Cutlery Chronicles writes so very well.

What’s your signature dish?

My signature dish would probably have to be my Chocolate Guinness cake. It’s just so simple but has a really different (in a good way!) taste to a regular chocolate cake.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool/appliance? What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

When we moved back to the UK after living in France I treated myself (big time) to a Kitchenaid mixer. I love it! If I could ever justify it, my dream would be to get a Vitamix one day…

IMG_8413Hello, I’m Iris (@edgwareviabank): aspirant writer, crazy cat lady in becoming, and massive sweet tooth. Whatever Gets You Through The Day is my food blog, but there’s much more than just recipes. I also like to share my eatery and event reviews, travel tales, pictures, and some bits about my life in London.

Where are you coming from this year?

West London. Although at heart, I’m probably still a country girl from the North-East of Italy…

What are you most excited for at Food Blogger Connect this year?

I attended FBC5 in 2013, and loved it. I met and listened to inspiring people, made new friends, and found purpose for a passion I’ve been so far confining to late evenings after work. I’m hoping for more of the same this year: another boost of inspiration for my food and writing projects, and many more new friends to share my adventures with, both on and offline.

Tell us a bit about your buddy!

My buddy is Bake – one half of Bake’n’Shake (@bakenshakeblog). We didn’t manage to speak in person at FBC5 last year, but have been chatting a lot online, and I’m really looking forward to finally meeting her in person. Her blog’s all about good food and simple living: what’s not to love?  Bake and I took part in the Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap in 2013, and I was lucky enough to receive a box of handmade biscuits from her. Her Spiced coffee and chocolate wholewheat shortbreads  are so tasty and addictive, I miss them sorely now they’re all gone!

Tell us a bit about your blog – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?

I started Whatever Gets You Through The Day during my first year in London, to find relief from the setbacks I was facing. It was a place for me to be positive, focus on the little things that kept me going (edible, for the most part!), and share them with others – which makes me even happier than keeping them to myself. I work full time, and have to keep my passion for writing and food out of the office, but haven’t given up hopes of making it more than a pastime: I’d like to make my blog a platform for different projects, like writing a cookbook, collaborating with other websites and magazines, and maybe, one day, starting my own supper club or cookery class.

Which other food bloggers do you follow most closely? Tell us something you learned from reading other blogs you probably wouldn’t know otherwise?

The Pastry Affair, The Little Loaf  and The Cutlery Chronicles are my top three right now. I’m fascinated by how these bloggers combine and create new flavours, and connect food with memories and everyday life, crafting beautiful pieces of writing as well as unique recipes and reviews.

What’s your signature dish?

I really enjoyed making these Gluten-free hazelnut and ricotta tartlets. It was my first-ever gluten-free bake, and I got quite creative with mixing and matching ingredients. That hazelnut and ricotta filling was so surprisingly good, I wondered how on earth I could have lived without it all my life!
