60 Seconds with Alumni United Cakedom Returning for #FBC15!

Meet Lisa, the American baker and UK blogger behind United Cakedom (@unitedcakedom) returning to #FBC15 this September!

photo (12)As a returning FBC Alumni, what are you looking forward to learning and enjoying at FBC this year?

The food!! Of course the people too. It’s always great to meet the people behind their blogs!

Is blogging your full time job?

Blogging is still my hobby. I’m not 100% sure where I want to take it in the future, but for the time being I’m happy with the way it is.

CakedomHeadWhat first motivated you to blog?

I started blogging because I was a stay at home mom and I needed something that was mine. I took up baking after having success with birthday cakes for my husband and children. It seemed like a good fit. I tried book and mommy blogging and neither really stuck like baking did.

Which other bloggers do you follow most closely?

Cakeyboi, Jen’s Food, The Baking Explorer, Confessions of a Cookbook Queen, Kitchen Frolic, and so many more are ones I read all the time. I love all the different styles and content.

Finish this sentence: “For me, the ultimate food heaven is …”What’s your idea of food hell?

For me, the ultimate food heaven is… cookies. I love chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, oatmeal raisin! Pretty much any kind of cookie and I am there. My food hell would be raw onions. If they are pureed in something or cooked until they are mush then I can eat an onion, but if it’s raw it’s a no go.

Does the proliferation of food programmes on TV aid or hinder your quest to develop and sustain a food blog?  In what way? What are your thoughts on the future of TV? Particularly, what are your thoughts on vlogging?Alumni

TV food shows can be dull at times. There has to be something more then just watching someone throw ingredients into a pan. I like Jamie Oliver’s FoodTube channel on YouTube I think it keeps things interesting and short.

What other influences or interests would you say make for a great food blog – travel, fashion, tech, lifestyle?  To achieve a successful blog what comes first – the dishes, the styling, the photography or the words?

Food has so many influences especially dependent on where you are so yes, travel and lifestyle are a big part of food and food blogs. In the past I’ve made something thinking it would be a good fit or popular on my blog, just to have it not turn out or I don’t actually like it. Then it doesn’t make it on the blog. I have learned that sticking to what I want to make and what I like is what makes my blog what it is. Therefore, it is in my opinion that the food comes first, then the photography and last but most important the words.
