60 Seconds with UAE Blogger Pots and Patterns Joining #FBC14!

Blogger Shaima Al-Tamimi (@potsandpatterns/@iamshaima) from Pots and Patterns inspires happier, healthier and more creative lifestyles, and she is joining us for the first time at #FBC14 this year!

What are you looking forward to learning and enjoying at FBC this year?

I look forward to meeting like minded people and learning from everyone. Really can’t wait to see the Ottolenghi gang as I have heard so much about them for the past years.

Tell us a bit about what you have outside of your blog – your work, family life and any hobbies…

I am one of 5 siblings and live between the UAE and Qatar. I work at a film institute and love my job. Apart from cooking, my hobbies are reading, travelling and trying different things. Oh, does Crossfit count?

What motivated you to blog and how has blogging changed your life?

I wanted to have an outlet where I could share my kitchen conundrums, culture and thoughts with the outside world, hence why my friend Latifa and I started the blog.

What’s your signature dish?

I’m yet to post about my signature dish, however, there are bunch of recipes I do like to fall back on for healthy and delicious packed office lunches during the week.

Which other bloggers do you follow most closely?

Everytime I discover food blogs that I’m blown away with. My current favourites are:
Sips&Spoonfuls – FBC Alumni!
When Shaikha cooks
Ishita Unblogged
My Custard Pie  – FBC Alumni!
Rustic Joyful Food

How far have you travelled for the perfect meal?

A couple of years ago, my friends and I would drive from Abu Dhabi to Dubai (90 mins) just to have the perfect breakfast and come back.

Finish this sentence food heaven is to me… three things, street food, being invited to a home cooked lunch or dinner when I travel to a new place, and having awesome foodie friends.

FBC14-FoodBloggerConnect-Register-TodayHow does the sheer volume of food programmes on television hinder or aid your quest to develop and sustain a food blog?

Food programmes like Come Dine with me, and Gordon’s Ultimate cookery course are not only a great way to pass time, but also teach you a thing or two about cooking for others. I watch them from time to time for inspiration and take what i want to implement in my own kitchen for friends/family.

Who is your favourite food writer?

My favourite food writer has got to be Arva Ahmed, a Dubai based fellow food blogger and founder of FryingPan tours. Her writing style is so vivid, I literally feel like I’m living the experience and journey she is taking me on through her words.

How is your lifestyle shaped by food?

My lifestyle is heavily shaped by food because i try to make much of it on my own during the week. So im constantly thinking of new recipes and healthy meals to try. This is a process I actually enjoy, and thats where I get blog post inspiration for the future.

What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

The hottest item on my shopping list may not be a gadget, but rather a couple of destinations I would love to travel to and experience their culture through food and local people! Countries on my bucket list include Lebanon, Vietnam, Greece, Egypt, Zanzibar and Yemen.

Shaima, look forward to hearing your experiences in FBC – there is so much to learn from all the experienced bloggers from around the world. Thanks very much for mentioning my blog – I am humbled.

Yes. I’m quite excited about the whole trip and hope to spread the word more about Khaleeji food. Will be great to observe and mingle with everyone. 🙂
