#Meettheblogger behind the blog My Unsettling Life at #FBC15

Paola, the blogger behind My Unsettling Life (@MyUnsetlingLife), is joining #FBC15 for the first time this year! Let’s give her a warm welcome.

blog profileWhat are you looking forward to learning and enjoying at FBC this year?

I expect to meet a lot of like minded people with love for food and blogging, expect to learn some new things, to appreciate some food, and to have fun!

Is blogging your full time job? If not, what is your day job? Tell us a bit about what you get up to when you’re not working on your blog – your work, family life, projects, hobbies…Would you like to become a full time blogger and focus your professional career in this area?

Yes. I love dancing and my current hobby is going to Zumba classes, I take care of the house and my husband when not working, usually trying out new recipes.

How do you think brands could work better with bloggers? How would you describe your relationship with bloggers and industry folk?

Yes, I would love to be and feel like a professional. Brands should offer decent payment for their requests and they shouldn’t bully bloggers. I have quite a few blogger friends and colleagues that are very happy with each other. Industry folk I am very straight forward, I expect the same from them and we have a very nice relationship.

What first motivated you to blog and how has blogging changed your life? What’s your ultimate blogging dream – where do you plan to take it in the future? What are your future aspirations?

I love writing, that’s what motivated me. Blogging has given me fun, friends, and an opportunity to help my husband pay bills. The dream would be to support my family with it, and be able to publish my own books. I am working on a new platform and a book right now, apart from a free e-book.

From where do you get inspiration for your blog posts?

I usually get inspiration from seeing things on other blogs, or on shops, in my daily life, sometimes even in dreams.

What’s your signature dish?

I would say my signature dish would be tiramisu. And my favorite recipe would have to be the simple Bailey’s truffles.

baileys truffle mulWhich other bloggers do you follow most closely?

I have learnt a lot from Sarah Arrow, and so I follow her very closely. I also really like IFLScience, and Fleur DeForce.

How do you shop for food – supermarkets, farmer market, local shops, online etc? What are your thoughts on the decline of supermarkets and the future of our grocery shopping habits?

I go to supermarkets. I don’t mind the change but I am a fan of going to the shop and looking around, handling the food items.

What blogging trends are you enjoying at the minute? Do you follow trends religiously or are you most interested in setting new trends yourself, a bit of both, or do you ignore them all together?

For me blogging is a trend in itself, so part of it is keeping up with everything that is going on. I think people innovate all the time, and people get comfortable in what they like the most.im-going-to

How far have you travelled for the perfect dish?

I will travel far if I can, but money will always be the guide on how far.

If you had to eat one country’s traditional dish for a year, what would it be? What would be your last meal on earth?

South African pan served seafood. Last meal same as the traditional dish.

Finish this sentence: “For me, the ultimate food heaven is …”

For me, the ultimate food heaven is not gaining weight even after eating all I want. Surrounded by soya, fennel and celery.

Does the proliferation of food programmes on TV aid or hinder your quest to develop and sustain a food blog?  In what way? What are your thoughts on the future of TV? Particularly, what are your thoughts on vlogging? What would your ideal youtube channel cover?

Aid. Tv is becoming lesser and vlogging is the new thing.

Idealy a channel with recipes, DIYs, makeup tutorials, travel and some normal everyday life. Depends on the chef, but mostly good.

Who is your favourite celebrity chef and / or favourite food writer?

Jamie Oliver and Laura Vitale. They are real, simple and straight forward.

Are there any food writers/chefs who you believe are underappreciated and deserve more attention?

Laura Vitale.

You’re given the opportunity to cook for anyone – dead or alive, real or fictional, chef, celebrity, royalty, public figure – anyone! Who would it be and why? What would you make them?

I don’t think I’m a good cook, just decent, so only for husband and friends. I try to make them whatever they like the most.

How many cookbooks do you own? What attributes make a good cookbook for you? What cookbooks have you added to your collection recently? Which cookbook do you return to time and time again?

Around 5, not sure. Pictures and recipes that actually work. Cakes and cupcakes cookbook. Laura Vitale’s website.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool or appliance – either a new addition or a trusted old favourite?  What’s on your wish-list right now? (Could be a gadget, appliance, ingredient/product, book, restaurant, course, travel destination etc)

All of them. Fully equipped modern kitchen.

How is your lifestyle shaped by blogging? Does blogging shape your approach to food and what you eat now?
I love food, so my life works around it. Blogging is my fun, my therapy.
To achieve a successful blog what comes first – the dishes, the styling, the photography or the words?
No. Words and photography.
