We’d like to introduce you to William Dobson, a writer and journalist, focusing on food, travel and the arts, who has written for a host of different publications across three continents and also runs Sugar Street Review. Will is the new content curator for FBC12 and is looking forward to hearing from you.
As Pavarotti said ‘one of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.’ It’s a sentiment with which I agree entirely. Suffice to say, yes, I love food – when I’m not eating, I’m thinking about eating (usually jamon iberico de bellota) or reading about it. Moreover, I love the link between food and culture. For me, truly great food encompasses more than just the food itself. It’s about passion, it’s about history, it’s about culture. As much as I enjoy Michelin-starred ‘perfection’, nothing will ever compare to the meal I ate in Frescati, just outside Rome, in a little family run restaurant called Al Fico.
The owner had started life running sandwiches for Fellini as a young boy when the great director was filming in the town. Now, probably pushing 85, he still stands every evening slicing prosciutto di parma by hand, almost impossibly thin, on the corner of an old, wooden table, full of the most mouthwatering selection of antipasti you could possibly imagine. All of this, in the most charmingly rustic garden, underneath the fig tree that gives the restaurant its name and in the town which inspired so much of Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo, my favourite novel. The spaghetti alle vongole was pretty special too! A good meal you will always enjoy, but an amazing experience you will never forget.
As such, I feel privileged to be the content curator this year for FBC. As food blogging becomes more and more popular, it’s a pleasure to be able to read everyone else’s experience, to have the opportunity to partake in each other’s enjoyment, and to come together to share our passions for food. Of course though, FBC isn’t about me, it’s about you. This is a conference to bring food bloggers from all over the world together and I want to know what you guys want to hear about, what issues you want to discuss, what you thought made last year so special and what you want to see to make this year even better. So get in touch, spread the word and I can’t wait to meet you all in September, if not before!
