#FBC Lebanon Roaming Workshop

FBC’s incredible fifth year celebrations in London might only just be over, but we’re not taking any time to catch our breath! No sooner had the tables and chairs been put away, before we were busy organising our first overseas pop-up.

With FBC Dubai already announced for October, we’re stopping off in Lebanon en-route. On Saturday 7th and Sunday September 8th, we’ll be hosting a one day Photography and Food Styling Workshop in Batroun, Lebanon tucked away at the charming Beit al Batroun  (with an outdoor pool if the kitchen gets too hot) where it couldn’t be a more beautiful and relaxing spot to meet other like-minded people, hone new skills and to enjoy the embracing local hospitality.

Flying out with the FBC London team will be talented food photographer Sarka Babicka, a veteran from the conference, and Leith’s food stylist Emily Jonzen , the duo behind founder Bethany Kehdy’s debut Middle Eastern cookbook, The Jewelled Kitchen selected as the Telegraph’s cookbook of the week offering an array of Middle Eastern recipes to photograph, shoot and taste on the day following a thirst quenching wine reception sponsored by Wines of Lebanon!

Additionally, the afternoon BBQ lunch includes a 961 draught beer presentation with no other than Mazen Hajjar, named the Hipster Brewmiester of Beirut by The New York Times.

Emily Jonzen is a London-based food stylist and cookery writer. Having trained at the prestigious Leiths School of Food and Wine, Emily has developed a relaxed, modern style with a fine attention to detail. She loves the creativity of styling for editorial shoots as well as the intricate care involved in packaging and commercial shoots. She also writes and develops recipes and food features for books and magazines and has been featured with Marks and Spencer, Telegraph Magazine and Food Network amongst many others.

A childhood spent divided between England and Singapore has influenced Emily’s eclectic style and she is inspired to write by the food she discovers on her travels – from the far-flung find to the local London deli.

Sarka Babicka (@sarkababicka) is a London based freelance food, lifestyle and travel photographer. She works with clients locally and internationally on a variety of assignments. Sarka’s approach produces natural, fresh, minimalist and compelling attributes to her photography work; creating high quality and original images for editorial and commercial clients. Sarka is revered for her deep understanding and respect for the crucial element behind every resonating photograph; light. Sarka has been coined a master of manipulating light and because of this her images are in a league of their own.

Having worked with Cuisinart, Kallo Foods and Duncan Baird amongst others her work has also been featured in countless international publications including Bon Appetit and The Times.

Bethany Kehdy (@Bethanykd) is a Lebanese-American food writer, presenter and author of the highly-anticipated The Jewelled Kitchen. A pioneer of today’s new Middle Eastern cuisine, Bethany’s work has been featured in numerous international publications including The Times, The Telegraph, CNN Travel, and countless others.
Bethany has appeared on several cookery shows in the UK, including the popular BBC Good Food Market Kitchen: Big Adventure and Perfect, and has cooked for and held live cooking demonstrations at Tawlet (Beirut) & L’atelier des Chefs (London) hosted by Wines of Lebanon. Bethany is also the founder of Taste Lebanon, Culinary Journeys as well as Food Blogger Connect, he world’s leading international food blogging conference.

In this multi-part session, Sarka and Emily will show you how to strengthen your distinctive style by integrating style and images more effectively. They’ll start the day with photo foundation work, including how they go about choosing props and styling a plate to simple shooting exercises to improve your command of lighting, camera angles, and depth of field choices. They’ll also focus on defining and expressing your voice, through the choice of props, color palettes, and image composition. You’ll engage in fun, non-intimidating hands-on propping, styling and shooting.
