60 seconds with Slice off Me & Simply Sensational Food #FBC14

In case you were wondering if it would be all new faces at #FBC14, we’re delighted that alumni Manjiri (@manjirichitnis) from Slice off Me and Nayna from Simply Sensational Food (@simplyf00d) will be joining us again this year.  These two great bloggers are always a pleasure to see at FBC and we were anxious to hear what they’re excited for this year.

Hi, Manjiri!  Tell us about you and your blog.

0b237a4I write a Food Travel and Lifestyle blog called – ‘sliceoffme’’. I have been writing at sliceoffme since Jan 2012 but have been blogging since 2006.   I live in London.

What are you most excited for at Food Blogger Connect this year?

I have attended FBC in 2012 and 2013. I am very excited that I will be attending with blogger friends who I met and bonded with during FBC’5. Its going to be an awesome experience in 2014 which I am guessing will be the case for all of us who met last year!

Tell me about your buddy?

My buddy, Nayna, blogs at Simply Sensational Food.  We decided to buddy up when we heard at FBC 2014 dates had been announced and buddy passes were up for grabs! It was too exciting an offer to let go of!  Nayna’s blog is a vegetarian blog and I love her eggless recipes, especially the one for vanilla short bread.

Tell us a bit about your blog – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?

I started blogging because I wanted to assimilate all the recipes I have been collecting for years and also found it a great way to connect to people who are passionate about food. I plan to continue blogging, cook great food and continue writing. Bigger plans may materialise in the near future.Screen Shot 2013-12-16 at 9.58.36 PM

Which other food bloggers do you follow most closely? Tell us something you learned from reading other blogs you probably wouldn’t know otherwise?

I love a whole lot of different blogs and enjoy browsing through blogs with brilliant food photography and unique recipes. There’s so many blogs I love but a few of my all time fav’s are Cook sister, whatkatieate ,Veggie Belly amongst others. Passion for food photography is something I have picked up after browsing through some really brilliant blogs and now am totally addicted to finding the next awe inspiring food photo!

What’s your signature dish?

I love cooking seafood and mutton curry. My favourite recipe is a spicy recipe for mutton curry using pickle as marination.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool/appliance? What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

I have a very long wish list of kitchen appliances which I really want in my kitchen but what tops the list is Kitchen Aid which has now become a necessity rather than a luxury. Santa, are you listening? Apart from that would like add a new camera lens to my armour.

Over to Nayna (@simplyf00d) of Simply Sensational Food – Hi, Nayna, please tell us a bit about you!

Nayna profile pic 2I am British Asian; my family emigrated from East Africa when I was very young. I have grown up in the UK and live with my husband and two teenage daughters in a London suburb. I am a working professional with a passion for cookery, food photography, food styling and collecting crockery and props. I am very enthusiastic about food, love cooking and developing new recipes.

What are you most excited for at Food Blogger Connect this year?

I attended FBC last year and really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to attending again this year so that I can catch up with old friends and meet new. I am also looking forward to picking up some more tips on book publishing, food styling and food photography and how to monetize my blog.

Tell us a bit about your buddy!

My buddy is Manjiri Chitnis. She blogs at slice off me,  a blog about food, and travels. I love reading Manjiri’s blog as she always adds lots of personal anecdotes about her life, family and friends in the posts. It makes the blog post very live and fun to read. Manjiri is a very happy go lucky person with a jovial personality and it shows in her posts. I met her for the first time at FBC 5 in July last year and immediately we clicked and our friendship has grown.  My favourite blog post from Manjiri’s blog is the key lime pie, it is my favourite dessert.

Tell us a bit about your blog – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?

simply.food was created 5 years ago as a place to collect my recipes so that my daughters could access them, however as its popularity grew so did my interest in regular posting. They say that the currency of a blog is its visitors and comments which are a great motivation. The name simply.food seemed apt for the blog because that is exactly what my blog is all about “simply food”. All the recipes I share on my blog are ones that I cook on a regular basis for my family and friends. I love experimenting with Asian spices and adding them to international dishes to create fusion cooking. I plan to grow simply.food and make it bigger and better. I am also excited as I have just launched two cook books Easy to cook Snacks and Easy to cook Potatoes which are now available to order but from Waterstones and amazon and also from simply.food . I am currently working on my third cookbook. In the future I would love to offer vegetarian cookery classes and hope to work on this new project in the New Year.

I particularly enjoy reading Jacqueline Meldrums blog tinned tomatoes. I love her recipes which are vegetarian too and I enjoy reading her posts where she cooks with her little son. It reminds of my cooking and baking with my daughters when they were younger.

What’s your signature dish?

My all time favourite recipe is Chilli Paneer- a spicy indo Chinese starter made with Indian cheese and spices.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool/appliance? What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

My favourite item at the moment is my new Nikon DSLR camera I am learning how to get off the auto mode and take some good photos of my dishes with it. I have just purchased a new lens for my camera; the Nikon 50 mm f 1/8D, I am really excited to use it.

Thanks, ladies!  Very excited to have you both back at FBC this year!
