Today we are meeting with Emma Gardner from Oxford, UK. Emma is the food blogger behind poireauchocolat.net
What motivated you to blog about food?
I fell in love with the writing, photography and recipe development and wanted to try it myself. I also wanted a place to write naturally away from academic essays and to explore cooking further. It quickly focused into baking and desserts.
What’s been your ultimate meal to date?
Hard to choose but I would say the meal I had with my boyfriend at a little restaurant in Cornwall called L’Estuaire. The food was gorgeous but it was the whole atmosphere and experience that made it so special – all the little final touches.
How has food blogging changed your life?
It has developed my dreams and allowed them to come true – I wouldn’t be starting training to be a pastry chef this autumn without it.
Do you have a favourite food writer and why?
I wrote my dissertation partially on food writing this year and I have to say M.F.K. Fisher only improves with re-reading and study. I love her work.
What would your last meal be?
I’d have afternoon tea (the best meal of the day) consisting of an excellent cream tea (I’m from Devon and very fussy), a little raspberry tart, a few dark chocolate pralines and finally a perfectly ripe white nectarine.
What do you find most challenging about blogging?
Keeping going, especially when I’m going through a creativity drought or very stressed about university work. I often keep baking and taking photos but nothing seems good enough to post.
