Love Your Blender was born from a desire for varied, delicious and nutritious smoothies, fast!
We had gotten tired of buying bags of mysterious superfoods that sat in the cupboard after one or two unsuccessful uses, or big tubs of pre-ground mixes that we got bored of or lost their scent and flavour after being open a week.
We developed our own ‘breakfast smoothie’ recipe, using superfoods we found we liked, and whole nuts and seeds – we figured, what’s the use of having a high-powered blender and putting pre-ground seeds into it – that’s like having a Ferrari and only deriving it sedately around the block at 20 mph. Then to save the time of opening and closing several bags and tubs we started making up seven pots of the dry ingredients every day, so in the bleary-eyed very-early-morning (Ruth is a personal trainer and often has a very early start to the day!) all we had to do was add the fresh ingredients (in this case an apple, a few cubes of frozen spinach, half a frozen banana and water) and the tub of dry ingredients into the blender. After a while we got bored of the same old smoothie, and thought “if only someone did little mixed pots like ours but in different flavours so we had some variety…” – bingo!
We then spent a few months in a flurry of superfoods, seeds, nuts, and tasty extras such as vanilla pods, rose petals and ginger root, working with organic-certified suppliers, and perfecting our intensely delicious and nutritionally well-balanced mixes. We want to help people have fun with their blenders, encourage experimentation and variety, get them in touch with whole foods rather than pre-ground, and help them create really tasty smoothies.
How did you hear about FBC?
We launched Love Your Blender in May this year (2015) and from the start had great interest from bloggers. We found out about FBC online. We’d love to get our sachets into the kitchens of every good food blogger out there, so going into the goody bags for the event seemed the perfect way to do so.
The experience of using the Love Your Blender sachets is important – of seeing the whole ingredients go into your blender – so we wanted every blogger attending to have a sachet at home to experience this.
FBC registered attendees from around the world will be going home knowing more about your product and its flavour! How can other non registered bloggers get their hands on your product?
Non-registered bloggers can drop us a message via our website www.loveyourblender.com – we can then check out their blog/social media and work out how best we can partner.
Do you work with any bloggers currently or plan to? Tell us about some campaigns or projects you do with bloggers or plan to, perhaps review work, recipe creations, giveaways or others? What do you look for in a blogger when searching to work with bloggers?
We have provided prizes for giveaways with bloggers including HealthBloggersCommunity.com and MindfullyMoni. We’d love to do more of these – we are looking for bloggers who are into mindful eating, whole foods, natural foods and getting the most from blenders.
How has social media helped you connect and engage more with a wider audience and particularly bloggers?
Social media is amazing – it has allowed us to reach a really switched-on, excited audience of foodies and fitness fans, and get feedback on our products really quickly. Thank you to everyone who has liked, shared and posted us!
To achieve a successful blog (from an industry perspective) what comes first – the dishes, the styling, the photography or the words?
Photography attracts us first to a blog, but then the words become more important. An element of something other than food – travel inspiration, technology (blender tips etc) – also help a blog stand out from the crowd.
What food blogging trends are you enjoying at the minute?
We’re loving all the mouth-watering, beautiful, colourful shots of smoothie bowls appearing all over the web at the moment. We wish we had time to create our own such works of food art!
If you could tell people to eat one thing more often what would it be and why?
Our signature blend, Cherry Rose. Each sachet has a two-centimetre segment of FairTrade Madagascan vanilla pod (IMAGINE how that’s going to taste whizzed up in your smoothie…), rose petals, acerola cherry powder, and whole hemp seeds, almonds and sea buckthorn berries (essential oils for beautiful skin). All you need to add is 80g frozen cherries and water, blast it in your blender, and you have an intensely delicious, naturally sweet but low-GL (thanks to the vanilla pod), super-healthy smoothie, which any top smoothie bar would be proud to serve up, created in moments in your own kitchen!
