Today we are meeting Valerie Van de Flier who resides in Amsterdam. Valerie writes the food blog www.lovethroughthestomach.com
What motivated you to blog about food?
I posted pictures of the food I prepared on facebook all the time. Family members and friends kept commenting on it and a friend even told me I should write a cookbook. I had my own domain name which I didn’t use for anything but mail, so I figured ‘why not give it a go’. A year later I’m still enjoying it immensely!
What’s been your ultimate meal to date?
A dinner at ‘Tarantella’ in Milan. The fussilli alla carbonarina and Tagliate alla Robbespierre. When we were back in Milan 9 months later I made us search for the restaurant again (for at least an hour) as I forgot the name. I then proceeded to order the exact same dishes. So I have my ultimate meal to date twice!
What’s your least favorite food?
I’m allergic to most kinds of fruit, so I’m not too fond of anything with fruits. Also, I really don’t like fish, never have and possibly never will.
What’s your favorite part of the food blogging process?
Finding out that I can actually make a lot of things I never thought I could pull off. Because of the blog I try – and often enough I succeed.
What do you find most challenging about blogging?
Blogging often enough. I would love to write every day, but right now I’m struggling to make it twice a week. Between a full time job, a big house and actually having to cook, eat and sleep, it gets hard to find time sometimes.
Who taught you to cook?
I’m mostly self taught. Sure my mom showed me some things as a kid, but we have totally different cooking styles. 99 percent of my knowledge comes from experimentation and dumb luck (and the internet of course!)
