Today we are meeting the lovely Ren Behan who lives in Hertfordshire. Ren is the food blogger behind Fabulicious Food
What motivated you to blog about food?
I have always enjoyed writing and started my blog as a way to encourage me to write more and to have a creative outlet whilst being a stay-at-home mum having stepped away from a demanding career in law on having children. I chose to write about food because I have always had a passion for food – my whole family have always enjoyed gathering around food to celebrate and enjoy life.
Who taught you to cook?
My mother taught me how to cook and both of my parents are of Polish descent so we grew up eating Eastern European food. I began helping in the kitchen from an early age so when I went off to university I at least had the ability to fend for myself! Since then I have also developed an obsession for cookbooks and love attending cookery school classes which have helped me to develop my skills.
How many cookbooks do you own?
I probably own around one hundred cookbooks. Since I started blogging that number has increased! I also now enjoy reviewing and collecting new cookbooks, particularly by aspiring or up-and-coming food writers.
What’s your favorite part of the food blogging process
My favourite part of the blogging process is the ability to connect with like-minde people from all across the world and share our passion for food. It probably seems strange to my family and friends that I think about food so much of the time, but when I connect with other bloggers and readers who all love food as much as I do – I feel normal again!
Where do you get inspiration from?
I take my inspiration from the seasons and try to shop as often as possible in local shops and independent delis. I am also guided by the tastes and demands of my family – particularly my little children!
What do you find most challenging about blogging?
The most challenging aspect of blogging is finding the time! Although I gave up law to stay at home with my kids, their needs always come first, so I try to snatch moments when they are asleep to cook, photograph and write.
Who is your favourite celeb chef and why?
My favourite celebrtity chef is probably Silvena Rowe as I love all the Eastern European influence in her food and books. She is one of the few celebrity chefs to champion the kind of food that I was brought up on! My favourite food writer is Nigel Slater as he also takes his inspiration from the seasons, or from his garden.
Future aspirations for the blog? My future aspirations for my blog are to carry on cooking and writing and to get better at all aspects of the blogging process. I absolutely love that I’m following my dream by writing about food and that blogging is giving me so many opportunities that I would never have had before.
