60 seconds with Recipes from a Pantry and the Hedgecombers

Adding a bit of a Southern edge to this year’s FBC are Suffolk based blogger Bintu (@recipespantry) from Recipes from a Pantryand Jane (@HedgeCombers) from HedgecombersBoth ladies are FBC alums, so we were excited to hear what they thought they could learn to grow on previous FBC experiences.

Welcome back, Bintu!  Tell us about your blog.

1-P1010065My blog is called Recipes From A Pantry and brings you delicious recipes using your pantry staples.

What are you most excited for at Food Blogger Connect this year?

This will be my second time attending FBC. I am excited about meeting new food bloggers, learning how to grow my blog with all the amazing talks we will get. Also getting to try new foods etc.

Tell us a bit about your buddy!

My buddy is Janie from The Hedgecombers. I met her hanging out on google + food blogger forum. Love her bubbly personality and her fab recipes. I want to eat everything she cooks.  Check out this Lamb Apricot Tagine by Janie.

Tell us a bit about your blog – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?

The women in my family are really good cooks and I get my inspiration from them. Plus I eat, dream, breath and sleep food. I want to be able to cook everything under the sun, and inspire people to do the same as well as try food from West Africa. I would also love to be able to earn a living from my blog as it would be amazing to get paid to do what I love doing.

Which other food bloggers do you follow most closely? Tell us something you learned from reading other blogs you probably wouldn’t know otherwise?

Elsa at The Whinery, Lindsay at Pinch of Yum, Tammy at Our Neck of The Woods, Karen at Lavender and Lovage, Jeanie and Jack at Love and Lemons and GG at Glamorous Glutton are some of the blogs I love reading.

What’s your signature dish?

I have too many signature dishes but this Prawn and Coconut Noodles dish is ready in less than 20 mins and is super easy and yummy to make.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool/appliance? What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

I would do anything, and I do mean ANYTHING for a Kenwood mixer (esp in Red), a Canon 6D camera and a top of the range Vitamix blender.

Hi, Jane (@Hedgecomber)!  Tell us about you and your  blog, Hedgecombers!

Janie n hen 3I’m Jane Sarchet aka Janie. I live on a smallholding in Cornwall and focus on real food, cooked from scratch with a strong leaning towards seasonal, local & wild produce.

What are you most excited for at Food Blogger Connect this year?

Catching up with all the friends I made last year, and getting a chance to speak to (hopefully) everyone else! Last year was my first bloggers event ever!

Tell us a bit about your buddy!

My buddy is Bintu (@recipespantry) who blogs at Recipes From a Pantry. We initially met on G+ about 18 months ago and immediately become really good friends. I only met her in person for the first time at FBC5 and can’t wait to hang out with her again! Although her blog has just turned 1, it is bursting at the seams with great recipes that focus on pantry staples. She also lives on a farm so we have lots in common when it comes to food!  I have bookmarked her Roasted Butternut Squash Soup with Coconut, as I grow lots of butternut squash every year & I’m lactose intolerant so it’s a winner in my book!

Tell us a bit about your blog – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?

I find inspiration every single day whether it’s collecting eggs warm from the nest or preserving gluts of fruit & veg throughout the year. I do struggle to keep up with posts during harvest season because there is so much work to here during late summer!

PROJECT EGG Button Big

With my readers help I wrote an egg busting cookbook for other chicken keepers last year, which is available free from my site, and I am currently writing another one on slow cooker meals. 2014 will see me focusing on creating youtube videos which I’m super excited & totally nervous about!

Which other food bloggers do you follow most closely? Tell us something you learned from reading other blogs you probably wouldn’t know otherwise?

Karen (@Lavender & Lovage) has become a really good friend since meeting her at FBC5 where she gave a talk on getting published in magazines. I now have a couple of opportunities lined up where I am (hopefully) going to reach that goal!

What’s your signature dish?

Today I’m craving the Moules Mariniere that I made for my 24 hours long 5th blog birthday party last year. Utterly delicious and living a mile from the beach, mussels are easy for me to forage.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool/appliance? What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

Favourite kitchen item would have to be my brand new kitchen that my boyfriend Jonny has built me – out of pallets! It is HUGE and so, so pretty and I love it (and him!) My old kitchen was the size of a postage stamp and was so awkward to work in when I have to cook so many dishes for the blog.

Kitchen!

As for the favourite foodie item, I’m going to cheat and say the eggs I collect every morning from my hens. I wouldn’t give up my girls for all the tea in China 🙂

Great to find out a bit more about you Bintu – hadn’t realised you lived on a farm. And Jane your kitchen is fabulous. Maybe one day I will make it to FBC.
