60 seconds with Mel from Le Coin de Mel

In our latest 60 second feature, we’d like to introduce you to Watford-based Mel (@lecoindemel) from family food blog Le Coin de Mel who is relatively new to the world of blogging. We reckon she’s going to love her first time at #FBC15 in September!

What are you most looking forward to at #FBC15?

Meeting new bloggers, connecting with brands, learning as much as possible about food photography, and tips for how to build a successful food blog.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am a teacher (French with 11-18 year-olds), mum and blogger. I love cooking for/with my four children, travelling, eating, looking at food, taking photos of it, crafts, reading and shoes. I hate folding laundry and emptying the dishwasher.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I started blogging because I was struggling to find recipes for my baby who had a plethora of allergies. My blog is now about food and my family. My children are my primary source of inspiration.

What do you think is the recipe for a successful blog?

I think the photography and composition probably make a blog successful, but great recipes must go hand-in-hand with the visuals.

im-going-toWhat’s your signature dish?

My favourite recipe is also the simplest. My easy crusty bread requires no kneading or bread machine, and it is perfect every time!

What’s the most unusual restaurant you’ve been to?

The most unusual restaurant I’ve ever eaten at was up a tree in Thailand. I can’t actually remember how we got up there, but it was pretty high!

Your idea of food heaven? Food hell?

Ultimate food heaven for me is a huge selection of cheese with salad and crusty bread. Food hell is a microwave meal.

Which cookbook do you return to time and time again?

I own about 50 cookbooks and I use them all. I keep going back to Annabel Karmel’s weaning books – I use her recipes for the whole family. I also love Jamie Oliver, a few books from France and my old notebook full of recipes.

What’s your favourite kitchen tool?

My favourite tool is my sharp potato peeler from Ikea. I also love my Victorinox knives and my Vitamix. I desperately want a KitchenAid!
