60 seconds with Marthe Teunis of The Baking Bluefinger

Today we are meeting Marthe Teunis from Zwolle, The Netherlands. Marthe is the food blogger behind thebakingbluefinger.wordpress.com

What motivated you to blog about food?

I have always liked baking and cooking and was browsing the Internet looking for new recipes to try out when I found a group called Tuesdays with Dorie, this group of bloggers were baking their way through ‘Baking: From my Home to Yours’ by Dorie Greenspan. I really wanted to join, but one of the conditions was that you had to write a blog so you could post the dishes. So I decided to start blogging.

Who taught you to cook?

My mom taught me how to cook and bake. For as long as I can remember my mom always baked her own cakes for our birthdays and I was probably about 6 years old when I started helping her.

Do you have a favourite food writer and why?

Either Dorie Greenspan or David Lebovitz, they both live in Paris and I love to read about places and shops that I have also visited. Besides that their blogs are quite entertaining and have great recipes.

Future aspirations for the blog?

Hmmm…. right now I don’t have enough spare time, but I would love to actually own my own domain and blog about recipes I’ve actually come up with myself on a regular basis.

What does your family/partner think of your blog?

Most of my family and friends know I blog, but they don’t frequent my blog. My mom reads it every now and then and my brother (a social media reporter) thinks I’m very 2.0. According to him that’s a compliment, but I’m still not quite sure what it means!

Tell us something you learned from reading blogs you probably wouldn’t know otherwise?

Marthe, thanks for giving us 60 seconds to answer the questions. Your replies were charming and I was enchanted by the idea of ‘Tuesdays with Dorie’..having just finished the book the title is twisted from. Also a big thank you for your honesty regarding how your family view your blog..my Mum has not read any of my blogs (YET) and I don’t think my sister has ever stopped by. Until today, this irked me..you helped me to consider it fully and I now see that I’m not actually writing my food or my travel blog for them but for people who travel the same paths (or would like to) and enjoy the same food as me. So, thanks..really.

I hope you manage to ‘find’ the time to develop your blog further.
