Today we are meeting the lovely Jacqueline Roll from London. Jacqueline is the food blogger behind Me Likey UK.
What’s been your ultimate meal to date?
That’s a tough call! It’s a toss up between Michael Kayser’s restaurant Alexandre in Nimes and Alan Ducasse at the Dorchester. Both meal experiences completely overwhelmed me! I continue to be amazed and admire how creative and innovative chefs are in their craft.
What’s your least favorite food?
Generally, I would say offal is not high up on list of favourites. It’s not for the lack of trying but I am yet to be converted!
Where do you get inspiration from?
A variety of sources. After graduating from University I lived in Paris for over a year and my taste buds opened up to a wide array of products and flavour combinations. I am now married to a Frenchman and we share our love for good food so much so that we included a cooking school as part of our honeymoon in Thailand! Oh the romance! Apart from that, there is so much resource out there; foodie focussed articles in magazines and newspapers, cook books, TV programmes, not to mention the growing number of fabulous foodie blogs!
How has food blogging changed your life?
It has heightened my passion for food, being more inquisitive and experimental whether it be trying new cooking techniques, researching new trends, experiencing different restaurants, and reading various foodie literature.
Future aspirations for the blog?
I’d really like to relaunch my blog to focus 100% on food. In September we are relocating to Hong Kong and I want to log all the foodie memories and experiences so FBC #11 has come just at the right time. The curriculum is spot on and I plan to put everything I learn into a new look and feel foodie blog 😉
What do you find most challenging about blogging?
Gosh! It has to be food photography and styling food to take decent pictures. I often look at other food blogs and think, how on earth have the managed to make the food “sing from the plate”. A lesson on food photography and styling is long overdue!
Who is your favourite celeb chef and why?
Raymond Blanc because he is a perfectionist and his passion for creating dishes and his attention to detail is infectious.
Do you have a favourite food writer and why?
It has to be Marina O’Loughlin. She is very gifted. She is able to recount a restaurant experience in such a way as to make the reader feel they are experiencing it first hand. Describing in just enough detail the welcome, ambiance, the taste and textures of the food, how well the staff engage with the customer etc with just the right amount of humour. She makes a very difficult task seem effortless.
