60 Seconds with #FBC14 Buddies Taming Twins and Jo’s Kitchen

FBC is so excited to have a number of buddies signed up to participate in our FBC14 conference.  We took some time to chat with newbie blogger Sarah (@tamingtwins) from tamingtwins and blogger Jo (@Jos_Kitchen) from Jo’s Kitchen!  FBC14 will be the first conference for both of them (coming from the West Midlands) and we looked forward to hearing what they were excited for.  We started with Sarah.

Birmingham

What are you most excited for at Food Blogger Connect this year? Have you attended FBC in the past?

I’ve not attended before. My blog is brand new and I’m really looking forward to meeting and being inspired by some amazing bloggers.

Tell us a bit about your buddy.

My buddy is Jo (@Jos_Kitchen) of Jo’s Kitchen. Jo and I live really near to each other. We met years ago through my day job (a cake decorating school called @bluedoorbakery). Jo has been to classes with us and she was over the moon and so pleased when she heard I was starting a blog too. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to make use of the fab early bird offer together.

Tell us a bit about your blog – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?
My blog is about my slightly chaotic life, running a business, having twins and still finding time for cooking and my true love, food. I hope attending FBC can help me to decide the direction of my blog, whether to start a new pure food only blog or if there’s a place for blogging about food alongside family life.

Which other food bloggers do you follow most closely? Tell us something you learned from reading other blogs you probably wouldn’t know otherwise?

I love Sweetapolita for her total precision in photography and cake making. I love Smitten Kitchen with the simple, clear photography style. Oh and I just want to cook everything they post. Finally, BakersRoyale for the moody atmospheric photography. Collectively they’ve taught me that your blog should be consistent and true to your own style, in recipes and look.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool/appliance? What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

I saved for years whilst lusting over a Kitchen Aid Artisan mixer. It’s now 5 years old, I use it almost every day. My poor long suffering husband says it gets more affection than he does! (I keep him quiet with cake.)

And over to Jo (@joskitchen), a long-time blogger who is looking forward to attending her first FBC conference.  Tell us a bit about you and your blog?

Hi, My name is Jo and I have been blogging at Jo’s Kitchen for 5 and 1/2 years.  I live with my husband Stuart in Halesowen, West Midland and our two year Thomas. I am pregnant with our second child due early January 2014.

I haven’t been to FBC before. I have been to blogging conferences in the past but never one especially about food. I would like to learn more about taking photos of food and just meet likeminded people from around the world.

Tell us a bit about your buddy!

Sarah (@tamingtwins) has only recently started blogging as Taming Twins but has been blogging for her company, Blue Door Bakery for a while now. She has a great eye for details and takes amazing photo and write simple tutorial cake decorating posts that are very easy to follow.  She has twins which are a few months younger than my son Thomas so we now have even more common than just cooking and making/decorating cakes.

Tell us a bit about your blog – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?

My blog is about simple home cooking for busy families. I am not the best photographer although I am trying to improve. I nicknamed myself the ‘the hungry blogger’ has my food is not generally around long enough for a good photo. In the near future, I am hoping to turn everything I have learnt from blogging into business helping fellow small businesses use social media and blogging to help their products/services reach out to a wide audience. I would also like to write my own cookbook/ebook at some point too.Screen Shot 2013-12-14 at 5.02.25 PM

I love Sarah at Maison Cupcake.  Her blog posts are always well written, informative and witty too. I have learned that there is no right or wrong blogging style. Its your blog and you can do what you like with it (within reason). Don’t just follow a trend just because everyone else is doing it. be yourself and most importantly have fun!

What’s your signature dish?

This is one of most earliest blog posts but it still well loved by myself and many others today. I still get compliments for it.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool/appliance? What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

I would love a Kenwood Chef stand mixer as it would make my cake baking so much easier. I also like my breadmaker as it means making pizza dough is so easy. I also love my stainless steel saute pan as it is oven safe and I cook most things in it.

Thanks to Jo and Sarah!  We can’t wait to introduce both of you to this year’s Food Blogger Connect.
