Today we are meeting with Emiko Davies from Florence Italy. Emiko’s food blog can be found at emikodavies.com/blog
What motivated you to blog about food?
I love food, I love photography and I love writing and have done ever since I can remember: blogging about food just makes me happy and sane!
What celebrity or celebrity chef would you most like to break bread with? Why?
Pellegrino Artusi – his famous cookbook was written in 1891, he was the first to attempt to create the idea of “Italian cusine” and pretty much every Italian household has a copy. I think he’d make great dinner company, based on the fantastic anecdotes he sprinkles throughout his book.
What’s your signature dish?
I didn’t think I had one but it seems to have become the “tiramilova” – a sort of hybrid between a tiramisu and a pavlova. Ever since blogging about this recipe, everyone I know has asked me to make it for them!
Future aspirations for the blog?
I’d love for it to be something I can dedicate more of my time to. It’s all about the love rather than money at this point but writing and photographing full time would be the ultimate for me.
Do you have a favourite food writer and why?
Alice B. Toklas. I’m currently reading her 1954 cookbook/memoir and, cannabis recipes aside, to me it is written exactly like a food blog – short, entertaining entries, with each recipe supported by a brilliant anecdote that weaves a story of her expatriate life in France.
Tell us something you learned from reading blogs you probably wouldn’t know otherwise?
For me, when someone cooks for you, they always give away a snippet of themselves. Reading food blogs is a bit like reading a personal diary with food as the code.
