60 seconds with #FBC14 buddies The Spicy Pear and Sylvia Happiness

Today, we welcome two excited alumni who are excited to return to #FBC14 – please join us in welcoming Sylvia (@sylviahappiness) from Happiness is Homemade and Tina (@thespicypears) from the Spicy Pear!

Hi, Tina.  Tell us a bit about you and your blog?

What are you most excited for at Food Blogger Connect this year?

I attended last year’s FBC and had a great time. I met some wonderful bloggers, who I continue to be in touch with and learnt lots of useful tips. I am looking forward to catching up with old friends and making new ones at FBC14.

Tell us about your buddy!

I met Sylvia (@sylviahappiness) from Happiness is Homemade at FBC5 and we hit it off straight away. Her blog is packed full of wonderful recipes, Arabic, Indian, Polish dishes and some great desserts. Her photography is amazing too.  There are so many of her recipes I like but one that stands out is her Prawn Bourek.  I would love her to repost her grandmother’s recipe for bigos into English, as I would like to try making the dish.

Tell us a bit about your blog – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?

My blog is full of my favourite recipes, some I cook on a regular basis and some I save for when I am entertaining. Since starting The Spicy Pear, I have learnt new cooking skills and experimented more with unusual ingredients. My family all love cooking and give me a lot of inspiration when it comes to learning new dishes, as well as my travels.

Which other food bloggers do you follow most closely? Tell us something you learned from reading other blogs you probably wouldn’t know otherwise?

I probably spend a vast amount of my free time reading blogs, or looking at pictures on Pinterest and there are just too many bloggers to name. I find each one of them to be inspiring.

What’s your signature dish?

I love making my Roasted Butternut Squash soup, it tastes delicious and is super healthy.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool/appliance? What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

My most used kitchen appliance has to be my mini food chopper, perfect for mincing garlic, onions and other vegetables for curries, sauces etc. I would love to own a Vitamix…oh how much fun I could have; and a slow cooker.

Over to you, Sylvia.  Tell us a bit about you and your blog.

Where are you coming from this year?

I live in a little town in Hertfordshire called Hitchin.

What are you most excited for at Food Blogger Connect this year?

I have attended FBC in 2013. I’m excited to meet new fellow food bloggers and meet up again with all amazing ladies I’ve met last year at FBC5.

Tell us a bit about your buddy!

My buddy is Tina (@thespicypears) from The Spicy Pear. We’ve met last year during FBC5 and decided to buddy up when we found out that the FBC14 have a great offer for buddies. I love Tina’s blog for palette of taste influence by her heritage (you will find there recipes from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran).

What is your favourite post by your buddy?

My favourite blog post from Tina is Homemade chicken curry

Tell us a bit about your blog – – what’s your inspiration and what do you hope to do with it?

Inspiration for my blog was my Mum’s cooking. She shared with me all the recipes she have collected throughout the years and it was a challenge for me to try them all and share my outcome with others. I’m going to continue blogging without any specific plans, will see what future brings 🙂

It’s hard to name only few food bloggers, I follow closely blogs of all the ladies I’ve met during FBC5. I enjoy reading blogs with simple recipes and beautiful, inspirational food photography.

What’s your signature dish?

My signature dish is a creamy algerian harira – arabic soup from Maghreb region of North Africa and shakshouka middle easter dish often served as a breakfast.

Do you have a favourite kitchen tool/appliance? What’s the hottest item on your shopping list?

I have a long list of favourite kitchen appliances like my very useful Kenwood triblade blender. On my shopping list is definitely a decent mixer like the Kitchen Aid !
